These past few weeks were really difficult for me. Staying at home for this long has really took a toll on my mental health. However, I'll keep going.
I had some trouble as to how to move forward with my project in terms of experimentation, but thankfully I got help from my tutors of what to do next. I haven't done proper work since Christmas so this is a real wake up call as I have 3 weeks left!
During this time I produced my previous drawings and one sample of weave:
The reason I did this was because I was lost in what to do, so I thought doing something is better than nothing. I also wanted to incorporate textiles into my work somehow. With this sample I wanted to create a snake like pattern but it didn't turn out how I'd like it to. But that's okay as I'm only trying/practising the craft.
In order to really focus for the deadline I made a list of what I want to explore from my past conversations with tutors and peers. As my project is based on showing the postive and negative effects that the fashion/beauty industry causes to my generation, I wanted to keep the topic wide especially since I'm struggling to come up with creative outcomes due to lockdown and lack of materials.
I done a bit on the skin positivity movement, so perhaps I could look into more ethnic problems such as body hair on men and women that aren't accepted in society. For example, people who have unibrows or hairy arms are seen as 'gross' or 'unkept' , when in reality it's completely natural and all of us grow hair everywhere.
Some of us are just not 'lucky' to be born with light features that are currently loved in this society by many.
My plan is to research into that, do more artist research, and begin to create experimental outcomes. I will start by creating different types of backgrounds inspired by Antonio Lopez's work.
Since my project is about the youth, it's inevitable to use the internet as my main source of references and images. So I will be utilizing it.
