Over half term, I did 3 pieces of soft pastel drawings. 2 on brown paper and 1 on white cardboard.
During the break, I had a lot of time on my hands so I spent most of it scrolling through social media wether it was for inspiration or entertainment purposes.
I follow many models, high fashion and average, mostly for the aesthetics but also for what they believe in. There are so many people who are inspiring to me and I had an urge to draw them. This was a great way to practice using soft pastels as for the past 2 years I was stuck on acrylics.
I surprised myself by seeing how pastels can create true quality in my work , from the uncomplicated blending, to the richness of saturation in colour. I was truly enjoying myself by drawing these 3 amazing women.
Adut Akech Bior
Adut is a South Sudanese- Australian model. She was refugee in her earliest days before Australia. She then lived as a student and joined a local agency. In 2016, her career sky rocked after she was cast as a global exclusive for Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent show.
* I also believe it's important to study different skin tones for inclusivity and to further my own knowledge.
Sophia Hadjipanteli
Sophia is a Cypriot model born in the US and most notable for her unibrow look followed by the #UnibrowMovement that she created in order to inspire women (and men) to appreciate their natural beauty especially if you're foreign/ethnic.
She appeared in many fashion shows and modelled for brands such as Guess Jeans and Polaroid.
She inspires me by staying humble, and not feeding into the hate comments she gets everyday for her bold look.
Tsunaina
Tsunaina is a Tibetan model born in Kowlooon, Hong Kong, who moved to the UK later on. Well known for her 'Avatar' like festures, she gathered thousands of media coverage by her captivating facial features and casually models from time to time but her main passion is music.
After finishing my drawings, I came to think about my future after this course and what I should do with my interests. I found an amazing University course called Fashion Marketing/management & Communication. It's a great way to incorporate my art skills but also find a pathway that leads into the fashion industry that's so diverse. I'm glad I found something that truly peeks my interest and now I have something solid to work to and a have good idea for how to build my portfolio.
