Life Drawing

Today I did some life drawing to build up my portfolio and practice key skills of blending, watercolours, and pastels.

At first I did a 5 minute drawing which is clearly better in quality, followed by a 3 and 1 minute drawing as a challenge. It's interesting how fast my hand and brain works under pressed time as you can see what matters the most to an artist. And for me it's detail that completes any drawing.

20 minute drawing of model sat on a chair.
This is focused on 3 tones to create highlights and shadows on the body. I chose red, orange and yellow to create a nice contrast against the black paper.

Here I practiced using watercolour as it's one of my weakness in terms of media exploration. I tried to do a cool tone drawing, followed by a 10 min water drip drawings as we were supposed to create a soft effect. However I made my paint too saturated in colour so unfortunately it didn't turn out the way I would have liked it to. But it still looks good in its own way!

This is my final 45 minute drawing. I wanted to have a chance to practice my pastel colouring instead of painting, as we don't come across a life drawing model everyday! I focused on making it look as realistic as It could get with the time span. I used a variation of colour that we could find on human skin such as: reds, blues, greens, greys etc.  Overall I think this is my best piece and I was really proud of what I achieved today. But there is definitely room for improvement, perhaps next time I could add more detail such as marks, wrinkles and freckles.
