3D: Hands Study Challenge + Creating a hand from clay/paper.

 Hands Study Challenge

I created a double-page spread of hand studies completed with different timings. I have used mixed media to create different outcomes, this involves acrylics, pastels, colouring pencils, and fine liners. I found this task very difficult especially when it came to my fingers, however, I think it was a good practice.

I am planning to do another thumb study as I felt the acrylic one didn't have that quality of detail. I'll do this by taking a picture of my thumb without nail polish and under different lighting.

Clay/Paper Hands

Today I made a right-hand model out of clay with reference to my own hand. It was so fun to do as the clay was very soft to manipulate into the form/shape I wanted. I definitely want to do this again as it makes you familiar with your own hand.

I'm really happy with the outcome as I only had 1 hour to complete this task.  After that, I did a paper-based hand model.

This was more tricky than the clay. My materials were cardboard, paper, and masking tape. I created this by having a cardboard cut out of my hand twice and stuffing it with paper in the palm area of the hand for some shape and to make it more round rather than flat. I secured everything with tape and attached a wrist. Unfortunately, It doesn't stand like my clay hand does. I didn't really enjoy this task as I felt there was only so much I can do with paper and a little amount of time as the materials are barely malleable.

On the other hand, the clay was easier to use and create a nice amount of detail. I had to carve the outline of my right hand and slowly take bits of clay off to create the shape I wanted. I found that carving the fingers was difficult and I did take off more clay than needed, however, I still found the clay as the best material to use when it comes to bringing my hand into life or any object in that case.
